X-Ray has come a long way since Rontgen invented it in the year 1895. The first X-Ray machine came to India in the year 1900. In conventional X-Ray machines the images were captured on X-Ray films which were then developed in a dark room. Around 1970's came Computed Radiography. In this the film was replaced by a digital cassette. The image is captured on this digital cassette which is then inserted into a scanner to get the X-Ray image on a computer screen. This image is far more clear than the conventional x-ray images.
The latest development in the field of X-Ray imaging is Digital Radiography (DR). In this system, the image is captured on a Digital Plate which is then transmitted directly to the computer using bluetooth technology. In this system there is no scanner and the quality of DR image is far superior than the CR.
The CR System costs in the range of Rs. 5-7 lacs while the DR System costs in the range of Rs. 12 - 15 lacs. High cost of the equipment means that very few hospitals or diagnostic centres in the country have DR systems installed.
